CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Gender equity in higher education during COVID-19 in Central Asia

Special Issue, European Education

Gender equality has been recognized as a central tenet of the Sustainable Development Goals. The topic is under-examined and needs further discussion to provide better understanding and solutions, especially in a time of COVID-19 when a pandemic naturally highlights privileges, such as financial security and access to mental health care. It also amplifies the mental, physical, social, and economic impacts attributable to pre existing inequities in academia(Malisch et al, 2020). The issue will cover a wide range of gender issues in higher education across disciplinary fields. Collectively, these studies will fill an important gap in the literature, addressing gender equity and inclusion from diverse local and national contexts, providing a picture of gendered patterns of the higher education landscape during an exceptionally unique time period.

We invite empirical and theoretical contributors addressing different aspects of gender equality, focusing on equity and inclusion in higher education in Central Asia, with attention to womens experiences as related to or affected by COVID-19 Possible topics to be addressed include, but are not limited to

mental health / well-being of female faculty,

gendered experiences of teaching during the pandemic,

gendered insights to service and research,

      gendered leadership and career advancement,

      experiences of student mothers.
